About S3IDF India:

S3IDF is an international non-profit organization that builds inclusive market systems to promote equitable economic and social development. Its current focus over the next 2 to 3 years is to work on Agricultural Value Chain solutions and Solid Waste solutions by partnering extensively with local NGOs and other groups including government agencies and equipment/technology suppliers as well as financial institutions. Through partnering that it arranges, S3IDF provides financing and technology know-how and capacity building assistance to small pro-poor infrastructure projects and enterprises. Its replication criteria and pro-active post-implementation monitoring and evaluation and best practices dissemination efforts are geared towards inducing financial institutions to increase support for such small infrastructure projects, which can be highly cost-effective in their poverty alleviation and environmental benefits. Position: Fundraising and communications officer / CSR Officer
Location: Bengaluru
Reports to:  Sr. Fundraising and Communications Manager

Position brief:

The Fundraising and Communications Officer will work closely with the Senior Fundraising and Communications Manager, and relevant US staff to build the fundraising and communications portfolio of S3IDF India. The focus of the role will be to provide fundraising support and establish and manage relationships with our targeted donors, which includes, corporates and foundations. The role will be critical in driving the business development of S3IDF and include scanning and identifying new donors (corporate and foundation) developing new donors by meeting them and building on existing relationships in order to generate income and subsequently donor retention.

The position will also provide a scope to write and create fundraising, communications and marketing materials to help promote fundraising opportunities through digital & social media, build the India-centric S3IDF brand, and position S3IDF India as a thought leadership within our primary sectors.

Key responsibilities:

Nurturing and establishing relationships: (50%)

  • Develop and establish initial relationships with identified corporates and foundations through phone calls, emails and face to face meetings.
  • Work with colleagues, as and when required, to convert a relationship into proposal submission and funding MoUs.
  • Establish contacts with various CSR conferences/roundtables and other programmatic events/seminars/ conferences (aligned with S3IDF mission) for participation.
  • Establish contacts with various CSR conferences and other programmatic events/seminars/ conferences (aligned with S3IDF mission) for speaker’s slot.
  • Participate in CSR/roundtables and other relevant events leading to enhancing brand awareness and fundraising.
  • Initial scanning of potential open calls through various platforms.
  • Take lead in developing initial “pitching” documents to the identified donors, including grant proposals and concept notes.

Communication: (30%)

  • Work collaboratively with the internal team (both in India and US) to develop communication pieces that can be uploaded in the select social media platforms, includes Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Support in the content generation required for other platforms and communication collaterals, like website, annual reports, etc.
  • Manage the social media output deliverables, including blog as per the social media plan.

Donor mapping and research: (20%)

  • Develop a landscaping document of corporates & foundations that are in the CSR field, primarily based in Southern India with CSR investment geographical focus in Southern India.
  • Augment a database on CSR conferences/roundtables and programmatic events/seminars/ conferences aligned towards enhancing and influencing donors towards S3IDF’s mission.
  • Research on new fundraising trends/giving patterns and media/online articles critical to “enhance brand awareness and influence donors” about the mission and work of S3IDF India.

Documentation: (10%)

  • Update of the database and relationships on the internal organisation software.
  • Ensure daily update of the internal software
  • Registration of S3IDF India in various platforms.

Education:  

Graduate / Post Graduate, preferably in Management / Communications.

Work experience:

Around 5 years of work experience in the development sector, with a focus on networking and generating corporate leads. Further experience in communications including exposure to digital media is an important yardstick for selection.

Personal skills and attributes:

  • Enjoys networking and ability to interact with external stakeholders and not intimidated by position or power.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft office, previous Dropbox and database experience and use of Adobe Creative suite (especially InDesign) a plus
  • Sound written communication skills, ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals
  • Sound organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Capacity to gather, evaluate and present a variety of data in a concise manner
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet internal and external deadlines

 Languages:

Excellent English skills – both spoken and written is mandatory. Spoken proficiency in at least one of the following four languages is a must: Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Knowledge of other/more languages will be an added advantage

Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will include a face to face interview and may involve other steps of assessment.

Project Development Officer 

The Small Scale Sustainable Infrastructure Develepment Fund, India (S3IDF-India), calls for applicants to fill the post of Project Development Officer. Project Development officer: Job Description

Position: Project Development Officer (full time, 3 months probation period)

Location: Bengaluru

Reports to: Chief Program Officer

The work done by the  Project Development Officer (PDO) is the heart of S3IDF’s work.  The PDO travels, understands problems on the ground, conceives solutions in consultation with different stakeholders and develops projects that implement these solutions. The PDO also ensures project development, management and monitoring processes and systems are designed, implemented and followed within the organization.

The role needs, firstly, a commitment to solving problems of poverty and the willingness to learn from the poor – how they leverage their entrepreneurial ability to solve their problems.  Respect for this spirit of entrepreneurship is the value based on which the PDO’s role and body of work will be built. The role itself needs a great deal of entrepreneurial spirit. It needs the ability to identify and get the multiple stakeholders of a problem to converge and make a project happen. The willingness to learn how to build conversations with people from low-income segments, grass roots NGO workers, technology suppliers and equally organization heads is an absolute must. The willingness to work with technical, financial and social disciplines all together is also an absolute must.  The ability to do and learn, fail and persevere are very important qualities for the PDO to have.

The PDO role at S3IDF has immense opportunity for growth.  Space to experiment and freedom for creativity and innovation is immense. The PDO is the eyes and ears of S3IDF on the ground and therefore is the most important human resource that will shape the evolution and growth of the organization.  However this has to be teamwork, and therefore the PDO will be expected to integrate well with the team and be an excellent team player. The team will consist of different people with different expertise and disciplines – being able to work together and leverage each other’s strengths, and recognize one’s own weakness is important.  

The PDO will have opportunity to interact with and get mentoring from highly experienced international and internationally known development sector pioneers of multiple generations.  At the end of the day the PDO role needs to deliver outcomes – well functioning small businesses on the ground that create jobs, solve infrastructure problems for the poor and are financially & environmentally sustainable.  

We want young, energetic, forward looking individuals who love India and its diversity and who love to travel to come be a part of S3IDF and make it a young organization in spirit. Willingness to travel 50% to 70% of the time is a must. Individuals with 2-5 years of relevant  experience will be considered for candidacy. Individuals with higher experience but are changing from corporate sector to the development sector to find more meaningful work, but willing to consider lower remunerations are also welcome to apply.

Ability to use laptops/computers and work in basic software such as word, dropbox, excel, power point and other such common tools is another absolute must.  

KEY Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sectoral research on specific sectors such as Solid waste, sanitation, agriculture, energy, water etc.  (Candidates with prior knowledge or particular interest on any of the above sectors will be an added advantage)
  • Research, network and identify potential partners for S3IDF project development.
  • Develop partnerships and nature relationships with partners by understanding the value that can be delivered to them and ensuring that value delivery.
  • Along with partners identify problems and potential projects/business solutions to solve these problems that fall within the purview and criteria of S3IDF’s mission and programs.
  • Identify entrepreneurs to own and operate the specific projects/businesses.
  • Develop and design the project in its entirety identifying the different roles for different partners of the project and ensure convergence of all partners to achieve project objectives and outcomes.
  • Financially design projects along with identified entrepreneur and partners.  Develop strategies of financing these projects and implement the strategy along with partners and entrepreneurs.
  • Identify capacity gaps in the entrepreneurs and help close these gaps through one-on-one mentoring and /or identifying capacity building partners who can become part of the project.
  • Ensure implementation of these projects.
  • Engage with relevant S3IDF program team members to monitor and evaluate the implemented project.
  • Ensure repayment of invested finances into the project with support from other relevant staff of S3IDF.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of the project is completed.  This could be technical documents, audio-visual documentation, and documentation for social media / story telling.  
  • Proactively seek mentoring support from Program head, CEO, advisors and peers within the organization and its partner organizations.    
  • Based on project development experience feed into ongoing and evolving strategies for the organization.
  • Undertake organizational development activities as Program head / CEO may instruct.
  • The PDO role will report to the Chief Program Officer.  
  • Periodic reporting to the Program head /CEO on project progress, new concepts, etc.

Education and Skill sets:

  • Graduate degree   in any discipline, post graduate preferred .Ability to comprehend  local livelihoods issues and the social entrepreneurship ecosystem is a must.  
  • A combination of technical and financial qualifications will be a clear advantage.

Work Experience: 2-5 years of experience preferably in relevant development / related sector(s) – however experience can be anywhere and individuals seeking a sectorial change are also welcome.
