Position: Project Associate (6 months Service contract)

This is a contractual position for an initial duration of 6 months, eligible for extension or permanent absorption based on performance and program’s requirements.

Location: Chennai (for day-to-day field operations in Perumbakkam and Pulicat)

Position brief

S3IDF India is looking to recruit a dynamic individual to implement its project “Entrepreneur Incubation Ecosystem (EiE) pathway in resettlement areas” in two locations Pulicat and Perumbakkam, Tamil Nadu. This is a full time field work assignment and this position will be under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager project development (AMPD) & will ensure effective project implementation consistent with S3IDF rules and regulations. The position will work collaboratively with all team members but most closely with Assistant Manager project development and Chief Program Officer (CPO). S/he will work in a fast changing and dynamic environment with multiple priorities and pressing demands. The Project Associate will be located in Chennai with regular travel to field locations. Travel to S3IDF India office in Bengaluru may arise as when required.

The role needs, firstly, a commitment to solving problems of poverty and the willingness to learn from the poor – how they leverage their entrepreneurial ability to solve their problems.  Respect for this spirit of entrepreneurship is the value based on which the role and body of work will be built. The role itself needs a great deal of entrepreneurial spirit. It needs the ability to identify and get the multiple stakeholders of a problem to converge and make a project happen. The willingness to learn how to build conversations with people from low-income segments, grass roots NGO workers and equally organization heads is an absolute must. Key responsibilities: 

Relationship Building: 

  • Identify, initiate and manage relationships with community based organizations (CBOs), grassroots organizations (NGOs) and enterprising individuals from those communities.

Identify and initiate first level contacts: 

  • Identify & initiate first level contacts with Financial institutions (Banks, NBFCs etc.)
  • Identify & initiate first level contacts with relevant government bodies.
  • Identify & initiate first level contacts with relevant private sector players.
  • Supporting implementation of project activities and implementation of Project Action Plans.

Market intelligence & local level project implementation:  

  • Research and understand market based intelligence and local dynamics of micro enterprises.
  • Engage with relevant S3IDF program team members to monitor and evaluate the implemented project.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of the project is completed. This could be technical documents, audio-visual documentation, and documentation for social media / story telling.
  • Proactively seek mentoring support from CPO, AMPD advisors and peers within the organization and its partner organizations.
  • Periodic reporting to the CPO, AMPD on project progress, new concepts, etc.

Personnel skills & attributes:

  • Language: Excellent Tamil skills – both spoken and written is mandatory. Functional Spoken English is required. Knowledge of other/more languages will be an added advantage

Work Experience: Less than 3 years of experience, some of it preferably in livelihood development for rural/urban poor. Fresher’s with an education background from any social science background are encouraged to apply.

Salary: Rs 25,000 – 30,000 per month.

Position: Story Teller

(Suitable designation will be decided for the successful candidate) 

Location: Bengaluru

Reports to: Senior Manager, Institutional Partnerships

Position brief:

The Storyteller will work closely with the Senior Manager, Institutional Partnerships, and relevant US staff to build the communications and fundraising portfolio of S3IDF India. The position will collaborate with other staff members and partners to gather and develop content, coordinate and maintain online presence, and increase digital engagement. This position is responsible for “aggressive dissemination” of the created content across all social/digital media channels and work closely with the US team. This position will monitor, evaluate and evolve the impact of S3IDF website and social media.

The position will also provide a scope to network with potential funders, write and create fundraising proposals, communications and marketing materials and build the India-centric S3IDF brand, and position S3IDF India as a thought leadership within its primary sectors.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of communications for a non-profit, a flair for design, excellent story telling skills, and a passion for finding innovative ways to get the message out on a limited budget. The successful candidate will have a positive and proactive approach to work and a strong ability to develop effective relationships with a wide range of contacts.

Content Generation: (50%)

  • Ensure adherence to and implementation of S3IDF’s Communication strategy and social media plan.
  • Take lead in the content generation required for other platforms and communication collaterals, like website, annual reports, etc.
  • Support and where required, take lead in developing fundraising proposals.
  • Take lead in managing and coordinating any communications related vendors.

Content Propagation: (20%)

  • Aggressive dissemination of the Social Media Plan

Networking and Fundraising: (30%)

  • Intelligence gathering – Research on new fundraising trends/giving patterns and media/online articles critical to “enhance brand awareness and influence donors” about the mission and work of S3IDF India.
  • Take lead and initiate “first-level” of contact with prospective donors.
  • Need based Event Management Support.

Education:  

Graduate / Post Graduate, preferably in Management / Communications.

Work experience: 

Around 5 years of professional experience in communications/marketing, ideally for a not-for-profit organization.

The PD team member also ensures project development, management and monitoring processes and systems are designed, implemented and followed within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sectorial research on specific sectors such as Solid waste -Sanitation, Agriculture, Decentralized Energy, Water etc.
  • Research, network and identify potential partners for S3IDF project development.
  • Develop partnerships and nature relationships with partners by understanding the value that can be delivered to them and ensuring that value delivery.
  • Along with partners identify problems and potential projects/entrepreneurs/business solutions to solve these problems that fall within the purview and criteria of S3IDF’s mission and programs.
  • Develop and design the project in its entirety identifying the different roles for different partners of the project and ensure convergence of all partners to achieve project objectives and outcomes.
  • Financially design projects along with identified entrepreneur and partners. Develop strategies of financing these projects and implement the strategy along with partners and entrepreneurs.
  • Identify capacity gaps in the entrepreneurs and help close these gaps through one-on-one mentoring and /or identifying capacity building partners who can become part of the project.
  • Perform market/value chain studies relevant to product/service provided by the entrepreneur/business.
  • Identify market players/buyers and facilitate their participation in the project.
  • Engage with relevant S3IDF program team members to monitor and evaluate the implemented project.
  • Ensure repayment of invested finances into the project with support from other relevant staff of S3IDF.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of the project is completed. This could be technical documents, audio-visual documentation, and documentation for social media / story telling.
  • Proactively seek mentoring support from CEO, CPO, advisors and peers within the organization and its partner organizations.
  • Based on project development experience feed into ongoing and evolving strategies for the organization.
  • Undertake organizational development activities as CPO / CEO may instruct.
  • Periodic reporting to the Program head /CEO on project progress, new concepts, etc.
  • Build and nurture strategic collaborations with large institutions like government bodies, ministries and large organizations to drive market level/systemic level change.
  • Leverage existing State Govt /Central Govt schemes and demonstrate S3IDF thinking by implementing/influencing projects in such schemes.
  • Be the spokesperson of S3IDF projects in suitable forums to enhance brand proliferation.
  • Mentor / line manage JPDO’s /interns/associates on the job to build program bandwidth
  • Become a specialist or spearhead in at least one crucial aspect of program work ( eg. Financial/ Technology/ Impact measurement/Partnerships Institutional Collaborations etc) within 12 months of joining into the role.
  • Perform and deliver as per co- agreed key results areas(KRA’s) and as documented with the CPO.
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes to remote locations, 50% to 70% of the time is a must.
